Retail supply rises as occupancy recovers and demand steadies

GREATER KL SET TO ADD MORE RETAIL SPACE

By the end of 2025, the total retail stock in Greater KL including standalone hypermarkets, is projected to reach approximately 78.9 million sq ft, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 3.8% from 76.1 million sq ft in 2024.

New major completions in 2025 will be concentrated across both KL Suburbs and Outer KL. Within KL Suburbs, Pavilion Damansara Heights Phase 2 is expected to contribute 529,353 sq ft, while KLGCC Mall will add a further 240,000 sq ft. In Outer KL, supply growth will be driven primarily by the completion of Hextar World @Empire City (1.8 million sq ft) and Sunway Square Mall (300,000 sq ft), underscoring the increasing role of Outer KL as a key growth engine within the broader Greater KL retail landscape.
